Hello! We are Marilyn and Kristine, the mother / daughter team behind KandyOh.
KandyOh products are inspired by our own interests, our busy lifestyles and Kristine’s experience raising 2 boys. We are both admitted perfectionists, and we both also love to cook, host parties, organize, decorate our homes and find new, creative projects to work on. Our No. 1 goal is to make products that are beautifully made, but also products that are practical and useful in our customers’ everyday lives.
For several years my daughter and I talked about starting a business together, but it wasn’t until late 2011 that we really got serious. We began brainstorming what unique products or point of view we could bring to Etsy, developed a business plan and brand identity, and then a few short weeks later — we were up and running!
I have been sewing nearly all my life — first sewing 4H projects and clothes for myself, then later sewing Christmas dresses for my own little girl. After my daughter graduated from college and started her own family, she often asked for my help with different sewing projects: wedding favor bags, crib bedding, kitchen curtains, alligator costume, dinosaur costume and many others. We found we were the perfect team — she had the ideas, I had the skills.
It’s been wonderful working side-by-side with my daughter — developing new product ideas, researching trends, shopping for fabrics together and discussing the future of our business.
We are very happy you are here!
What’s in a Name?
The name KandyOh was derived from our beloved Big Kandiyohi Lake (pronounced “candy-oh-hi”), which is located just west of Minneapolis and home to our family’s cabin. When we purchased it in 2007, it was basically a plain box with few conveniences. Little by little, we’ve been adding character and making it more livable. My son is exceptionally handy with woodworking, electrical work and plumbing — so his help has made a big difference.
